ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany City Commissioner Roger Marietta believes the city will now conduct a full search for a new City Manager.
We broke the news Thursday afternoon that Lonnie Ballard decided not to take the job of Deputy City Manager.
After discussions in secret, commissioners this week created that position for him with the expectation that he would become City Manager when Interim City Manager Tom Berry leaves.
"I think our city manager was trying to help us, because that's what he does for a living as a consultant, is find city managers for cities that need them, and I think he was trying to help us in the best way he could and it just didn't work out," said Roger Marietta, Ward IV.
Marietta expects that Deputy City Manager position will now go away.
He said commissioners will discuss the process of choosing a City Manager when they meet for a retreat this weekend.
