THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - The Thomasville Humane Society wants folks to know it's not just your pipes and plants that you should worry about with this cold weather.
Volunteers said pet owners should bring their pets inside, if possible.
And if you see any stray animals, it may help to make a makeshift shelter to keep them warm.
They suggest Styrofoam Igloo coolers stuffed with hay, not blankets.
Executive Director Ed Williams said, “Blankets and sheets and stuff like that can actually get wet, absorb water, and then they will freeze. And some of the moisture may even be coming off the animal. So hay is actually the better solution.”
Volunteers also warn that many strays may keep warm under the hoods of your cars, so honk your horn before starting your car to get them out.
