Thomasville panhandling turns into robbery

Lt. Eric Hampton Lt. Eric Hampton
THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Thomasville police are searching for a man they say stole a woman's wallet... after asking her for money.

The woman told investigators she was returning to her car in a Dollar General parking lot late Tuesday night, when the man approached her.

She told police she was getting money out of her wallet to give to him, when he snatched it from her hands and ran off.

"Panhandling is against the law in the city of Thomasville. We have a city ordinance against that. Any time you are approached by someone who is asking for money, we ask you to call the police, don't give them any money. Call the police," said Thomasville Police Major Eric Hampton.

Police describe the suspect as a black male wearing a dark hoodie who is about six feet tall and very skinny.
