BROOKS CO., GA (WALB) - The Brooks County Boys and Girls Club was in need Wednesday of coaches for its Spring sports.
The boys and girls club was looking for volunteers to coach youth baseball and softball. Coaches would need to practice with their teams two or three times a week and be there for the games on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
Wednesday, the club only had about half the number of coaches it needed and registration ends on February 27th. "I've had five or six people express interest so far. I really need that to at least double," said Brooks County Boys and Girls Club Director Andrew Hodum. "I'm shootin' for as many teams as I can. It really depends on the number of kids that register."
Two evaluation clinics for the kids interested in participating in the sports were scheduled to be held in March. The clinic for kids five to eight years old was scheduled to be held on Monday, March 9th from 6-7:15 p.m. at the rec fields next to Brooks County Middle School.
The clinic for kids nine to 14 years old was scheduled to be held at the fields on Tuesday, March 10th from 6-7:15 p.m. Hodum says there will then be a few weeks of practice for the teams before the season begins in April.
"We're shootin' to start games the middle of April after Brooks County's spring break," Hodum said.
If you would like to volunteer, a sign up sheet is available at the Brooks County Administration Building in Quitman.
