ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Drivers can expect some pleasant changes ahead as work continues on the East Broad Avenue underpass in East Albany.
City commissioners got an update today on the project that's been in the works for three years.
They saw renderings of the finished underpass which will include a mural... lighting... and landscaping.
City leaders have been talking about beautifying the underpass since 1955.
"We're finally getting to the point where maybe we can paint it and hopefully everybody will respect it," said Albany Director of Engineering Bruce Maples. "We're going to put graffiti, a coating on top of the mural. And hopefully people won't damage it and it'll last a long time and it'll be something everybody is proud of."
Maples said they hope the project will be completed in June.
They plan to time it with the opening of the Broad Avenue Bridge.
