SUMTER CO., GA (WALB) - The Georgia State Patrol made sure people were safe on the roads over the Valentine's weekend. Troopers at the Americus post teamed up with the Sumter County Sheriff's Office on road checks.
They set up at various spots in the county and reported more than 40 traffic violations, including two DUI's.
"It doesn't matter if you're drinking, just because you're drinking and driving, that's not the only "under the influence"; drugs, all kinds of things that cause you to be a less safe driver on the roads, we'll be looking to keep people on the roads safe as they go throughout their days and nights," said Trooper James Vaughan with the Georgia State Patrol.
Authorities said road checks like this will be more common on the weekends.
