Friends remember pedestrian hit and killed in Sylvester

Friends say they are going to miss a Sylvester man hit and killed by a truck Saturday night.

Friends of Walter Lee Curry say he was walking towards his home on Seabrook Drive when he was hit by a Chevy Silverado around 10:45 Saturday night.

The Georgia State Patrol says 50-year-old Curry was walking Southbound in the Northbound lane of Highway 256 near Town Creek Drive when he got hit. Troopers say 28-year-old Wendell Marlon Jr saw Curry and tried to avoid hitting him. Marlon was uninjured in the crash.

Phoebe Worth EMS transported Curry to Phoebe Worth Hospital. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Sylvester police were the first to arrive on scene. Friends say Curry was always there for others.

"A very nice humble person, someone that you can always depend on you can call him anytime,” said Freddie Drayton, Friend. “He's there with you to help and that's the type of person he was, he was a giving person."

His friends hope to host a fundraiser to help pay for funeral costs.

Troopers say Marlon is not facing any charges at this time.
