Rolled over truck blocks bypass ramp

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -  A truck hauling 77,000 pounds of cotton rolled over, as the driver was coming down the off ramp of the US 19 Bypass at Clark Avenue.

The wreckage has rolled into the on ramp right beside it, blocking that ramp for driver heading north and west toward the mall. All other ramps are passable.

Troopers say 62-year-old Tommy Blackshear was going too fast for the turn, as he was coming from Bainbridge, and was heading to Savannah.

Officials say it appears the load shifted as the driver was making the curve, and the force caused the truck went over. He was pulled from the truck by AFD officers, but was not seriously hurt.

"It appears he was actually standing up inside of the truck. We just used our Hearst equipment and cut the glass and brought him out through the windshield," said Assist. Chief Rubin Jordan.

A large wrecker truck came to pull the cotton truck upright.
