ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Investigators say the gun used in a deadly home invasion Friday in Dougherty County was a BB gun, which officers said looked like very much like a real firearm.
Dougherty County Police say 54-year-old Alfred Gilliard, Junior was armed with a BB gun, when he was stabbed to death by the victim in the home invasion robbery attempt.
61-year-old David Stewart said one attacker shoved a gun in his mouth, demanding money, when two men burst into his travel trailer home on Sylvester Road. Stewart grabbed a knife and stabbed Gilliard, who was found dead 20 yards away.
"It was determined that the weapon that was used during the armed robbery was a BB gun. And we have recovered that weapon, as well. We are still processing evidently, and awaiting results," Lt. Chad Kirkpatrick Dougherty Co. Police.
Gilliard's wife, Trisha Gilliard was arrested as the getaway driver, and 29 year old Jimmy Ellis as the second man in the home invasion. Both are charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault, and more charges could be pending.
