Car break-ins causing concern in Americus

AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - The Americus police department is reminding people to lock their cars and remove valuables. Police have already handled 35 car break-ins in the first six weeks of this year.

Most of them were the result of people leaving their cars unlocked. Weapons have been stolen in some, but there are common items in almost every burglary.

"Cell phones, computers, iPads, those are high dollar value items and we encourage you to secure them. Don't leave them in plain sight," said Major Herman Lamar with the Americus Police Department.

Major Lamar says the best thing to do is put things in your trunk if you want to leave them in your car.
