APD warns of Publisher's scam

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany Police Department saw that they have received multiple calls from citizens who say they've received phone calls from a man who says they've won $3.5 million in the Publisher's Clearinghouse Sweepstakes.

All they have to do is send a $399 pre-paid card to a Walmart in Alabama.

Many people report that same phone number appearing on their caller ID, while others report a different one. They say the scammers may have a device that puts up a false number.

"Do not provide any information whatsoever. No personal information. And also officers also warn that if they ask you to send money on a green dot card, do not do that," said Albany Police Media Manager Phyllis Banks.

Officials say that no one has reported actually falling for the scam, but that if you are asked to send money for something you've won, it's most likely a scam, which you should report to police.
