Baconton church helps teen visit dad after years

A Baconton Church is helping an Albany teen visit her father after not seeing him for two years.

Pastor Lawrence Knighton at St. James Missionary Baptist Church donated $1,500 to 14-year-old Jhakeria Haynes.

The Young Marines of Albany started to raise money for the visit. Her father, Captain Jeremy Haynes was critically wounded while serving in Afghanistan and is recovering at Walter Reed Medical Center in Maryland.

"It feels good that someone cares, said Jhakeria Haynes, Visiting Father.

"This is what we do and this is what the churches do that bless the individuals in the community and like they say it does take a village to raise a child,” said Nathaniel Lowman, Commander Officer of the Young Marines of Albany.

Jhakeria plans to visit her father during her Spring Break with a family member.
