Albany business owner wants lounge shutdown after shots fired

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany hotel business owner is calling for action after a club shooting damages his property.

Now police are investigating the motive and who's responsible for the shooting.

" The bullet come and hit my hotel window and that's too dangerous for the people if you know what I mean," said Jay Patel, Albany 8 Inn Hotel Owner.

Jay Patel is furious after a bullet shattered his hotel window at the Albany 8 Inn around 2:30 Sunday morning. Police said shots were fired next door behind the Sandtrap Restaurant Lounge and Club, damaging four vehicles in the back parking lot. One of the bullets went through room 221 at the hotel with someone inside.

" This is not even 100 feet, that club from my hotel," said Patel.

Marcus Thomas who was in the room wasn't hurt and Patel said it will cost hundreds of dollars to replace the window and that previous incidents at the club next door has affected his business for several years.

" Because of that a lot of people don't want to be staying here. Because it's noise all four o'clock in the morning. It's a lot of times shooting going on."

Patel has even expressed his concerns to City Commissioners.

" I 've been three times in city commission meeting before and they haven't done anything about it."

Police said there were no injuries from the shooting but they did arrest one person for underage alcohol consumption. They're now investigating what led to the shooting and who's responsible. Patel now hopes some course of action will be taken for the safety of others in the area.

" I hope city people take some serious action because it's not a onetime shooting going on here all the time and all the time fighting at night and tha'ts hurt my business."
