THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

The Thomasville-Thomas County Humane Society is investigating an ongoing dispute between neighbors that led to one of them shooting and killing the other's dog.

According to officers, the man said he shot his neighbor's dog when it ran into his yard.

The man told police he's made multiple calls complaining about this dog trespassing and threatening his own pets.

Animal Control officers are investigating whether to charge the man with cruelty to animals or the owner for letting her dog loose.

"If you or your animals are in immediate danger and you have no other choice, then obviously you've got to do that," said Ed Williams, Executive Director. "But, when there is an option, we would prefer you not shoot the animal."

Thomasville Police said charges for discharging a firearm in the city limits are pending.
