FITZGERALD, GA (WALB) - Animal control services in Ben Hill County and Fitzgerald have merged.
This change has some people asking questions about animal ordinances, but officials say the rules haven't changed.
Animal control will still enforce the city's ordinance which does not allow dogs to run free at all.
Outside the city limits, your dog doesn't have to be on a leash or pen, but it must be wearing a tag and cannot be a nuisance.
"The city ordinances and county ordinances are totally different. What we are doing is we are enforcing both ordinances with one set of animal control officers," said Frank Field county manager.
Dog owners caught breaking the ordinances could be fined or ordered to face a judge.
