Colquitt County school preps for 57th annual BBQ

COLQUITT CO., GA (WALB) -

Hamilton Elementary School is getting ready for their big, long-time running annual barbecue this weekend.

The school started prepping their smoke house at 7 Friday morning. They started cooking 4,000 pounds of ham at noon and will keep cooking until 7 Saturday morning.

School organizers say it's the old family recipes that keep people coming back for more each year. "Oh it's delicious. It's the best Brunswick stew, the best barbecue. It's the recipes that are the same." Donna Duncan, Hamilton Elementary ESOL Teacher.

"It's just a wonderful tradition that's been going on for 57 years."Krista Harrell, Principal.

The school will start selling the barbecue, Brunswick stew and other items at 4:30 Saturday afternoon, until 6:30. They're expecting to serve 3500 people.

Tickets are 8 dollars. The money will help fund school trips and equipment.
