Wife of slain man charged in home invasion

DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - The wife of a man who died during a home invasion has been arrested in connection to the crime.

Officers with Dougherty County Police arrested Trisha Leanne Green Gilliard, wife of Alfred Gilliard Jr. They charged her with accessory to armed robbery, burglary, and home invasion in the first degree.

Police also said they have warrants out for 29-year-old William James Ellis of Albany. They said he was the second man in the home invasion.

Alfred Gilliard Junior, 54, of Camilla died during the ordeal.

Officials said around 4:00 a.m. Thursday, Gilliard and another white male attacked two men at their home in Nob Hill Mobile Estates on Sylvester Road.

According to a report, 61-year-old resident David Stewart went outside to investigate a power outage in the unit.

That's when investigators said he was then approached by two men. Those men then forced themselves into the home with a gun.

Investigators said Gilliard Junior started to beat Stewart in the head and arm with a pistol, demanding money. He also forced the gun into Stewart's mouth.

Stewart grabbed a steak knife and stabbed Gilliard once in the upper body.

Gilliard's body was later found around 6:30 a.m. about 20 yards from the home in a wooded area.

Anyone with information about the crime is urged to call police.
