VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - A man that deputies said was trying to break into houses in Valdosta has been hospitalized after he barricaded himself inside a home and then tried to escape.
It happened around 4 p.m. Thursday on Wellman Pl.
According to a report, a homeowner let the man, who was not named, into his home.
That's when the man barricaded himself in a bathroom.
The homeowner, along with his wife and two children were able to get away safely.
When Lowndes County Sheriff's deputies arrived, the man refused to talk to them.
Investigators ended up sending a robot into the home, and located the man inside, who then broke out a window of the bathroom.
Officials brought in a Strategic Response Team, that went inside and brought the suspect out.
The suspect was bleeding from his hands. Authorities said the man had cut them when he broke the window.
The Sheriff's office also said they were concerned about some of the deputies who got the suspect's blood on them, because the man was said to have Hepatitis C.
Investigators said the suspect will be taken to jail on trespassing charges after he is discharged from the hospital.
More charges are pending.
