Registration begins for special needs baseball league

A new baseball league has been started for special needs children.

The Challenger League is open to children ages 6 through 14, who live in South Georgia and whose parents are willing to travel to Lee County.

Jennifer Sapp, who is vice president of Butterfly Kisses and the mother of a special needs child, says it will give children a chance to play sports in a safe, fun environment.

"They can learn the principles of sportsmanship and baseball, without having to have that high competitiveness that most teams do," explained Sapp.

Buddies will also be provided for children who might need help.

The registration fee is $60 and will go towards the uniform and concession stands.

Sign up is Thursday, February 5, from 6 pm to 8:30 pm at the Lee County Century Road Fire station or Saturday, February 7, from 9 am to 11 am at the Lee County recreation department.

If you're interested in helping with this league or have a question, call Jennifer Sapp at 229-894-9901. You can also like their facebook page by searching 'Lee County Challenger Baseball for Special Needs Kids.'
