ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Doctors at Phoebe Putney Hospital want to honor a fellow physician killed last year in a crash.
Each year on Doctors Day in March, instead of getting a thank-you gift from the hospital, doctors make a donation to help the community.
At the hospital board meeting on Wednesday, Doctors asked Phoebe to give to the cancer coalition in honor of the late Dr Hasan Rizvi.
"The money they use is all used locally for cancer screenings, cancer prevention. They have been instrumental in allowing a lot of patients in this area in the Southwest Georgia area to receive colonoscopys for free," said Medical Staff President Dr. John Vance.
Many of the doctors also offer their services for free for cancer screenings.
