ALBANY, GA (WALB) - South Georgia fire investigators learn how to get help from federal investigators.
On Wednesday, an agent with the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives briefed members of the Southwest Georgia Fire Investigators Association on their protocol for assistance.
Investigators from Lowndes County to Houston County attended the session at the Albany Fire Department training complex.
The ATF can be called in for arson cases with more than a million dollars in damage.
"A limitless asset to us. They have federal resources. Equipment, training, personnel to assist in large scale investigations that merit their protocols," said Lt. Justin Cox of the Moultrie Fire Department.
The ATF will also come in to assist local fire investigators in cases of church fires or crimes.
