LOWNDES CO., GA (WALB) - GSP Troopers in Valdosta were still trying to figure Wednesday afternoon out why a Valdosta man was on I-75 Wednesday morning when he was hit and killed.
39 year old Ronald Lee Craft, was hit by a semi heading South near the eight mile marker around 4 a.m.
WALB was on scene about an hour after the crash occurred. All Southbound lanes were shut down for several hours Wednesday morning while emergency personnel worked to clear debris from the road.
GSP Cpl. Will West said Craft was in the middle of the outside lane when he was hit. The semi also sustained heavy damage and had to be towed away.
Cpl. West said Craft lived nearby the area where he was hit, but they still had no idea Wednesday afternoon where he came from or where he may have been trying to go.
"We're still tryin' to be in contact with some of his family members, some of his friends, to see if maybe he was goin' to work or just tryin' to cross the interstate or if he was out there for a totally different reason," Cpl. West explained.
The driver of the semi, 54 year old James Milo Vanness, received minor injuries from the crash. He was treated at SGMC and then released.
He was not facing any charges Wednesday afternoon.
