BAINBRIDGE, GA (WALB) - An escaped prisoner in Bainbridge has been captured.

According to Bainbridge Police Department Facebook page, 18-year-old James Earl Jenkins escaped on foot from a work detail on Black Jack Road Monday around 12:30 p.m.   He is now back in police custody.

The Decatur County Correctional Institution is thanking city and county officers for quickly responding to help capture Jenkins.

He is the second escapee in Decatur county in two weeks.

Police caught him Monday night on Water Street.

The warden said, in both cases, the detail officers followed protocol, but keeping track of a dozen inmates can be difficult.

Decatur County Correctional Institution Warden Elijah McCoy said, “What I am going to emphasize with my detail officers is pay more and closer and closer attention to these guys.  And hopefully we can prevent it. This is not something that we want happening.”

Jenkins now faces escape charges on top of pending robbery charges.
