Families receive ACA enrollment help at Albany Civic Center

The deadline to enroll in a plan under the Affordable Care Act is quickly approaching. Today families sat down with experts at the Albany Civic Center to help answer any questions.

More than a dozen navigators from Seedco are helping families get enrolled into a plan under the Affordable Care Act.

"We're partnering here today with Phoebe Putney to support the consumers here in the Albany area provide information on ACA and to help them get enrolled on site,” said Karen Curry Davis, Seedco Program Associate Consultant.

Consultant Karen Curry Davis says eligible families who didn't enroll last year could face more penalties on their taxes this year.

"If they do not enroll this year by the 15th those tax penalties will actually double,” said Davis.

She says a lot of families are concerned that they'll be fined.

"The question is yes, if you are eligible,” said Davis. “Meaning if you're working and you meet the income requirements you are required to have health insurance."

Georgia's enrollment is steadily increasing and ranks among the top 5 in the country.

"The fact that we're number four in the nation, really shows that people are taking advantage of this opportunity,” said Davis.

Davis hopes families aren't missing out on this opportunity to have health coverage.

"The cost of healthcare is starting to become a country issue and so it's really important that people take advantage of the Affordable Care Act and what they need to know is the tax credit really buys down the cost so it's affordable,” said Davis.

The deadline is February 15th.

Seedco will host another Open House in Valdosta next Saturday at the Valdosta-Lowndes Park and Recreation Center from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
