Farmers hope trend of low gas prices continues

TERRELL CO., GA (WALB) -

Farmers say they hope the trend of low fuel prices continues into the spring planting season, which could save them big money.

Farmers use a lot of diesel fuel to run tractors and irrigation systems.

Mark Daniel with Mark's Melon Patch says fuel is a major expense.

"That's a huge help and hopefully that will keep up during the growing season when we are really using a lot of diesel," says Mark Daniel, with Mark's Melon Patch.

He says on Friday he was quoted a price of $1.64 a gallon for off-road diesel, almost half what he was paying last summer.
