Drug deal thwarted, suspects named

CORDELE, GA (WALB) - About 11:30 Friday morning, officers rolled up on a drug deal going down in the parking lot of the Ashburn Inn in Cordele.

Two people were immediately taken into custody as deputies seized marijuana, and a stolen firearm.

35-year-old Travis Deriso and 31-year-old Vince Patrick Edward are charged with marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of crack cocaine.  Crisp Co. Sheriff Billy Hancock said one of the men pulled the gun on him when he drove up, but did not fire.

Sheriff Hancock acted quickly on the tip, leaving the office mid-interview with us when it happened.

"Sometimes you've got to act on the tips you get and you've got to act quick. When people have narcotics or criminal activity inside an automobile you have to remember that that's a mobile crime," said Sheriff Billy Hancock.

When they find out which one had the gun, he will be charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Other charges will be determined later.
