Special Olympic athlete wins top honor

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Tyechia Luster is still surprised she won Female Athlete of the Year.

And had this to say about it when she won.

"Awwwh....Awwh," says Tyechia Luster.

Luster's sister Natasha Knighton is her biggest supporter, and always by her side.

"Any activity that she does, I'm right there. Any practice that she does, I'm right there," says Natasha Knighton.

Knighton says her sister has come a long way.

"At first she started off not knowing any of these sports, but now she has become an expert," says Knighton.

And Luster has the medals to prove. She competes in sports including basketball, bocce, and is now practicing tennis.

She is a woman of few words, but she let us know what she thinks of the honor.

"Wonderful," says Luster.

And she enjoys competing for several reasons.

"Keep me busy, make new friends," she says.

And Knighton says she is proud of her sister.

" I could never have imagined this going on for my sister," says Knighton.

And now Luster has a new goal.

"Go to the world games," says Luster.

And her sister says it would be a great opportunity

"I wouldn't mind taking her to experience that and see what its like," says Knighton.

Because she says her sister is her inspiration.

"I'm just so proud of my sister. She is my biggest inspiration. She inspires me. She doesn't know it, but she does."

Tyechia practices twice a week, and says her favorite sport is bocce.
