A Cordele city commissioner is taking a leave of absence after his arrest in a domestic dispute. Jamie Fernandez was arrested January 15th and charged with aggravated assault.
Investigators say he attacked his wife, who suffered injuries significant enough to require a hospital visit. Fernandez bonded out and still holds his elected office.
"He's not resigned. He has not been asked to resign. The commission is supportive of him and his efforts to try to restore some stability," said city attorney Tom Cotton.
Fernandez's attorney, Lars Anderson, says Fernandez has cooperated with investigators and did not have an official statement.
