BAINBRIDGE, GA (WALB) - Officers said a victim's quick thinking and bravery led to the arrest of an entering auto suspect.

Harold Smith, 43, is in the Decatur County Jail after officers said someone saw him breaking into their car a little after midnight last night.

Officers said the victim struggled with Smith, but was able to hold him down until police arrived.

Captain Mark Esquivel with Bainbridge Public Safety said, “We never encourage catching someone or trying to apprehend someone by themselves because it could be very dangerous and the subject could have a weapon. But sometimes it's kind of hard not to jump into action when you see something.”

Smith was charged with entering auto.

Officers said other charges are pending.
