ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A South Georgia State Senator is chosen to serve on a new Education Reform Commission.
The governor appointed former educator Freddie Powell Sims.
The commission will study how schools are funded... academic requirements... and career and technical assistance in education.
Senator Sims said the ultimate goal is to make sure more students get jobs.
"We want to make certain that the children that we serve are ready for global work, not just local work, but they can compete with anyone from across the world," Senator Freddie Powell Sims.
Sims also said she's excited to serve and hopes to bring reforms such as updated technology and recruitment of better teachers and administrators to rural areas.
