WORTH CO., GA (WALB) - Thieves in Worth County stole thirty thousand dollars worth of car parts after breaking into a garage.
The old car shop on Youngblood Road is just a hobby shop for a couple of guys. Now one of the owners says this break-in by some real professional crooks, is part of a bigger problem in Worth County.
"Cut the tag, bolted this back, grabbed the meter and snatched the meter off."
Ricky Gray explains how crooks disarmed his security system and nearly emptied out his garage. "It's a place to come and just relieve a little stress from work. You got stuff like this happening and it only causes stress," said Gray.
The break-in happened sometime last week, and the crooks got away with a huge haul of Gray's expensive parts. "408 stroker motor, bottom ends, trick-flo heads, air compressor, a dirt bike, I really just think they ran out of room in the truck to be honest with you," said Gray.
But not before stealing almost $30,000 worth of items. Gray says several of his friends have also had their shops or homes broken into.
"They're going to have to get on top of it and show some stricter punishment for these crooks, because we're out here making a living at it and they know who's working and who ain't working and they're coming around and they're robbing us blind," said Gray.
Sheriff Jeff Hobby says burglaries haven't increased, and they're doing what they can to catch the criminals.
"We're trying to increase patrols. We're trying to get them out in the neighborhood in the outreach of this county and be seen more," said Hobby.
Gray advises business and homeowners to get cameras and check their backup batteries.
"If we'd have had these cameras in before, I'd be sitting here and able to show you some video of at least what they were driving when they left from here," said Gray.
Gray locks up knowing if thieves come back, he's better prepared. He and his friends are offering a reward for the arrest of the burglars in this case.
