ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Georgia Power workers headed to New York today to help power crews there were turned around and sent back home.
Long Island Power Authority officials decided the crews were not needed.
The 247 Georgia Power crew members, mostly from North Georgia, left yesterday and spent the night in North Carolina.
"The damage was not what they had expected, and they would not need our crews. So we were able and turn them around and they are headed back home now," Jay Smith, Ga. Power Albany Area Manager.
If the New England or New York power companies need help in the following days, Georgia Power says they will be ready to send aid.
