Family grateful to Dougherty Co. police officer

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A family saved from their burning home last week by a Dougherty County Police officer is expressing their gratitude Monday night.

We showed you this dash cam video of Officer Byron Hill alerting the Strandberg family that their home on Pine Bluff Road was on fire early last Thursday morning.

Hill was patrolling the area when he spotted the flames and ran to help get the family out.

The victims said Officer Hill is their hero.

"Words can't express the gratitude that we have that he stopped that night and woke us up and got us out of the house because we probably wouldn't of made it without him," said Richard Strandberg, Fire Victim.

The Strandbergs are working to get in touch with Officer Hill so they can thank him in person.

They're staying with relatives right now.

Richard Strandberg Jr. lost his computer he uses for classes at Albany Tech in the fire.

The Strandberg family can be contacted for donations at 229-364-9223.
