Arrest made during fire in Albany vacant home

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany man was arrested in a vacant house when firefighters responded to a fire inside that home.

About 2:30 Sunday afternoon firefighters were called to this vacant house in the 900 block of North Jackson Street.

They say a fire in the fireplace spread onto the floor and 55-year old William Price was throwing burning material out of the house.

Investigators say it appears Price and several other vagrants were living illegally in the home.

Investigator Sam Harris said "He appeared to be staying in one room, with other people staying in other rooms within the house."

Price was arrested and charged with criminal trespass.

Other charges are pending.

Firefighters say vagrants starting fires in vacant homes is an ongoing problem this winter.

They urge you to call 9-1-1 if you see suspicious people around vacant homes.
