ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A federal judge said the court will take extra time for jury selection in the trial of three men charged with making bribes to obtain lucrative transportation contracts.
United Logistics trucking company owner Christopher Whitman, Shawn McCarty, and Bradford Newell are on trial.
Prosecutors say Whitman paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes to officials in charge of transportation and equipment at the Marine Corps Logistics Base from 2008 to 2012.
In exchange, they would gave him trucking contracts and allowed him to over bill millions of dollars.
An indictment showed Whitman made a profit of more than $20 million.
