LOWNDES CO., GA (WALB) - A Valdosta man was facing a lengthy list of charges Monday after leading sheriff's deputies on a high speed chase over the weekend.
38 year-old Arthur Massey was riding in a truck with his friend Saturday afternoon heading North on I-75 near the six mile marker when they were pulled over for speeding.
While a sheriff's deputy was talking to the driver outside of the truck, Massey jumped into the driver's seat and took off. Deputies used stop sticks and a PIT maneuver to stop the truck on South Patterson Street in Valdosta.
Massey then got out and tried to run away. "During the process of him fleeing, it was discovered that he was armed with a handgun, which he actually pointed at a citizen who was in her yard," explained Lowndes County Sheriff's Office Lt. Stryde Jones. "Mr. Massey ran into her home and tried to barricade himself."
Deputies were able to arrest Massey before he could get out of the home. Jones said Massey had active warrants in Lowndes County for his arrest.
As of Monday morning, the original driver of the truck was not facing any charges.
