Investigators call east Albany fire 'suspicious'

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Firefighters were called to the abandoned house in the 400 block of North Carroll Street about 6:30.

A pile of clothes by the front door was ablaze.

Firefighters think vagrants may have started the fire trying to stay warm in the rainstorm.

"It puts our engine companies at risk, because they have to go in and search them. Make sure no one is in the structure. So we have a lot of problems with that in the Albany area. We have to be vigilant," said Asst. Chief Rubin Jordan.

Firefighters urge homeowners to call law enforcement if they see suspicious people around abandoned homes.
