ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A drug cartel member convicted of cocaine possession and distribution was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison Thursday.
Nolberto Martinez, 31 was sentenced in Albany Federal Court.
Testimony in a trial revealed that Martinez was a member of the Gulf Cartel that supplied cocaine to middle Georgia.
Prosecutors said Martinez was involved in large-scale cocaine and crack cocaine distribution from 2007 to 2011.
He was said to be responsible for the distribution of more than 500 kilograms of cocaine in Berrien, Colquitt, Dougherty, Tift, Lowndes, Terrell, Turner, Seminole, Ware, and Calhoun counties in Georgia.
Investigators said the cartel worked from Matamoros, Mexico, placing cocaine inside the hidden compartments of specially equipped vehicles.
