ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Tax season unfortunately also brings out scam artists many of whom are targeting the elderly.
Albany Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit told residents at the SOWEGA Council on Aging to make sure never share personal information over the telephone or over the internet, and to shred any documents with personal financial information.
Corporal Brian Covington of the Albany Police Department also wants senior citizens to know there is help available if they need it.
"Reinforce to them there are resources available to them. If they need help filling out certain things if they have questions about certain things, they can call upon those resources."
Covington urges everyone to call their local law enforcement agency if they believe someone is trying to scam them.
