"Little libraries" coming to Clinch County

"Little" libraries were expected to soon start popping up around Homerville as of Thursday.

Clinch County Family Connection got approval from the city council to place four doghouse sized wooden buildings around town with books in them for people to read.

The group's goal is to increase the literacy rate in the county. They recently joined the Certified Literate Community program sponsored by the Technical College System of Georgia.

"I've actually had someone ask, 'can you steal a book?' No, actually, you can't. It's a lending library. Take it as long as you need it, return it if you want, pass it on to someone else to encourage them to read something that inspired you to read," explained Clinch County Family Connection Coordinator Jennifer Smith.

They hoped to have the libraries in place by the end of 2015. They also planned to place one in Fargo, Argyle, and Dupont.
