ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A historic Albany hotel could soon be converted into apartment units.
City officials say they are talking with developers about the old Albany Heights building.
They have one person interested who would like to see it converted into about 40 affordable apartment units.
Downtown Manager Sharlene Cannon says getting people to live downtown is vital to revitalization.
“It would be wonderful. It would be a real boost to our downtown. And that's certainly ADICA's goal, and until we get people living in and around this downtown we won't get the kind of progress we need," says Sharlene Cannon.
The historic building has been in downtown since the 1920's and at one time a HUD project.
