ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A tragic accident over the weekend serves as a painful reminder of the danger loaded rifles in homes can pose.
DNR officials remind parents to keep guns unloaded and safely stored from children. Free hunting safety courses are offered all across the state and focus on a wide variety of topics to keep you safe.
"Proper disassembly, cleaning, storage. Storage is very important that you store the firearm separate from the ammunition. That way if somebody that is not experienced with them, a child, that does get a hold of one, they don't get a hold of the other," said Volunteer Hunter's Education Instructor Chuck Turney.
Turney says the DNR website has links to all of the hunter safety courses across the state.
