Albany Police donate to local non-profits

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany Police Department is reaching out to the less fortunate in the community. Officers delivered 5 moving boxes full of soap, shampoo, and other essentials to the Salvation Army offices today.

The non-profit will split the donations with the Albany Rescue Mission. Law enforcers and the recipients were excited to take part in Operation Clean Sweep.

"Our duties are to protect and serve those in the community and what better way to service than to provide toiletries and items for less fortunate people around Albany," said Officer Kalandria Peterson with the Albany Police Department.

"It's a beautiful thing to see. The police department reach out and reach into the lives of people who can't quite help themselves," said Major Kelly English with the Salvation Army.

Officer Peterson hopes to turn this into an annual event.
