Manhunt underway for Worth County hitchhiker

WORTH CO., GA (WALB) - The Turner County Sheriff's Office is assisting the Worth County Sheriff's office in a manhunt for a hitchhiker.

The Worth County Sheriff says a Sylvester man picked up a hitchhiker in Sylvester on Hwy 33 North around 2:00 p.m. The hitchhiker pulled a gun on the driver, robbed him of his wallet and made him drive to Hwy 32 in Turner County. The hitchhiker got out of the car and ran into the woods.

Officials say the hitchhiker is a Hispanic man last seen wearing a long sleeve red shirt, black pants and had red duffle bag.

The Turner County Sheriff says they had a tracking team on the ground and have notified residents. So far, they have not found the man, but are keeping patrolmen in the area.
