TIFTON, GA (WALB) - An attempted robbery at a convenience store didn't go quite the way thieves planned.

Four men tried to break into an A-1 Food Mart in Tifton, but due to the magnetized door lock that requires the store owner to buzz customers in, they couldn't get inside.

Tifton Police said surveillance video of the robbery attempt shows how valuable a security system can be.

"As a customer, it may be a little aggravating when you first get to a convenience store, especially if you're in a hurry, to have to wait on the clerk to buzz you in," said Lt. Lee Dunston. "But, certainly this.. is proof positive that there is a reason for it and a need for it."

Officers hope to find the would-be thieves who couldn't get inside the store.

Anyone with information is asked to call Tifton Police at 229-382-3132.
