Valdosta airport gets $2M improvement

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Valdosta Regional Airport was in preparation Friday to update the airport's ramps. The new ramps will be needed to handle the larger jets that will soon begin flying into the airport.

Bids for the ramps were scheduled to go out in May of 2015 with construction to begin in late Summer or early Fall. "This will allow us to accommodate larger aircraft for in the future," explained Airport Manager Jim Galloway. "We don't want the airline to call us up today and say, 'hey, we're gonna start flyin' a bigger airplane tomorrow,' and us not be ready."

The project is expected to cost around $2 million, but the final cost was still being worked out as of Friday. The project will be completed in phases so as to not disrupt airplanes coming and going from the airport.
