An Oklahoma lawmaker stirred up controversy with a proposed bill that would make hoodies illegal in public.
State Sen. Don Barrington's says his bill is meant to give some safety to the public, not take rights away.
While it's understandable that some businesses prohibit patrons from covering their heads, it's over-reaching for this lawmaker to extend that ban to the public streets.
While hoodies are often associated with criminals, plenty of law-abiding citizens wear them for warmth and comfort.
We believe this lawmakers' proposal is an overreaction that threatens the constitutional rights of citizens.
