Morning fire displaces two in Valdosta

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Two Valdosta residents were without their apartment Thursday night after an early morning fire.

The fire broke out around 6 a.m. in apartment A-5 at the Arbor Trace apartment complex on East Park Avenue.

It is believed to have started in the vent fan in the apartment's bathroom. The residents were not home at the time, but other residents in the building were evacuated while firefighters worked to put out the fire.

The fire was minor, but it did cause heavy smoke and water damage to the apartment. "Fire crews found light smoke showing from the second floor of the apartment. We quickly determined which apartment it was, gained access," said Valdosta Fire Department Captain Jason Rowan. "We found some fire damage in the initial apartment, extinguished that. Had some extension into the attic."

No one was hurt.
