ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

You can help make sure people in need stay warm this winter.

The Georgia Association of Black women Attorneys is holding a coat drive at the Albany Police Department headquarters downtown.

Organizers say it's a perfect opportunity for a school project and for families to clean out their closets and donate blankets and gently used coats and sweaters for all ages. The police department is open 24 hours and will accept donations through January 16th.

Chimere Chisolm-Trimble the Regional VP for GABWA says

“One of the things that is most important is that we of course are doing this in celebration of Dr. King's day of service so if they are looking for a way to serve this is a great opportunity to do that."

The coats, sweaters and blankets will be delivered to the Albany rescue mission later this month.
