Americus police fighting crime with citizens

AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - The Americus Police Department is teaming up with citizens to fight crime. The department is holding neighborhood watch meetings for its 6 districts.

Authorities hope the program will help keep crime down in neighborhoods around the city. They say consistent participation is necessary for its success.

"Like I said it's not something that you can do today, tomorrow and next month. This is an ongoing program where you got to stay involved and report crime," said Lt. Helen Sims with the Americus Police Department.

If you want to get involved in your neighborhood, you can contact the Americus Police Department.
